NATURAL ST. PIRAN'S FLAG BADGE

St. Piran (or Perran) is the Patron Saint of Cornwall. His flag represents the legend in which he lit a fire upon a black hearthstone, which was actually a slab of tin-bearing rock. The heat from his fire caused the tin to melt and as it did so it rose to the top in the shape of a cross.  Cornwall was famed for its tin from biblical times, the Phoenicians used to trade in tin with Cornwall as far back as 445 BC.

March the 5th is St. Piran's saints day and more and more it is being celebrated by the Cornish (and those who have adopted Cornwall as their home)

This brooch / badge is created on a roughly shaped piece Black Cornish slate from Carnglaze showing the natural laminations and painted using silver to represent the tin (white) cross.

All brooches / badges have a pin back with a rotating capture-ring for safety.

By nature each one of  these badges is different (as shown in group) any one may be sent.
